Carbon Soil Sampling

We provide a completely independent soil sampling service for carbon projects. We have a range of suitable equipment, and we have the highest accuracy when traversing to or saving new soil sampling points with top of the range GPS equipment and location/navigation systems with a 4cm accuracy.

We have capacity for completely undisturbed samples down to a depth of 1.5m.

Sampling to ERF Standards and additional requirements:

Sampling for ERF projects require sampling to a depth of 30 cm and if further layers are sampled the data is handled separately.

For ERF projects sampling needs to be undertaken by an experienced person that understands sampling requirements  (for which we are accredited under FertCare C) and holds no financial interest in the carbon project. The soil sampling service provider also needs to remain separate from the development of the land management strategy for the project.

Hence, we remain completely independent from any particular carbon service provider and from the development of carbon projects; but aim to assist any producer or carbon service provider with any soil sampling needs.

Recent carbon sampling projects for VAES include projects that form part of the Federal Government’s National Soil Carbon Innovation Challenge (NSCIC). The NSCIC aims to develop new technologies that will lower the costs of accurately baselining a farm’s soil carbon.

We have been assisting  organisations such as Carbon Sync AU and Farm Lab in conjunction with the University of Queensland. Working alongside other WA project counterparts such as Carbon West.

Another carbon focused soil sampling project for VAES (but also full soil health reporting) was for Wheatbelt NRM and their Optimising Mixed Farming Fodder Systems project.
